My first DSLR

I finally made up my mind and bought a Pentax KX.

Too tempting for its price.

I love how it feels in my hands.

I love the noise of the shutter button.

I… better go out and start shooting… more!

Another tree bark experiment took the same day on the same tree. I wish the smaller branch added more perspective to the photo, but I’m not upset with the overall result. A bit of saturation here,  too, which highlights the green and brown parts of the tree.

My first experiences with tree bark. I’m quite impressed by the impact of a bit of saturation in a rather flat photo such as this. I hate the burnt sky in the upper part though…

made up my mind

I finally bought my first DSLR camera after about a month of reflection, documentation, doubts and whatsoever: the Pentax Kx with a 18-55 lens.

This is at the moment the best bang for the bucks DSLR camera for less than 1000 € (I spent 500 € for a single 18-55 kit) and image quality doesn’t fear the upper tier cameras from major manufacturers. It’s moderately light, small and has all the manual function I’m lacking in my Sony DSC-HX5V compact, even if it can’t compete in video functions (720p versus 1080i).

I’m looking forward to shooting some low light scenes which is one of the settings this camera excels according to some reviews.

Digital cameras, a step ahead

As usual I’m obsessed by the huge choice for any “gadget”.

I’m thinking about buying my first semi-serious digital camera and I’m impressed by those new micro-4:3 (mirrorless) with changeable lenses offered by all the major brands (Panasonic, Olympus, Sony).

Considering I’m not buying it today, my first choice is for a Panasonic Lumix DMC-G2. But then there’s the G1 only lacking video mode (I have another video dedicated  compact camera) and touch screen (pure gadget IMHO). And why not a nice Nikon D5000 which does all the stuff the latter cameras do and better (except for fast AF in live view…)? And what about Canon EOS 500D?

Aaaahhh, choices, choices…

a new blog…

This is my n-th try at blogs.

I’m giving a shot at tumblr which seems easy, unintrusive, stylish.

This time the reason for starting a-new is photography. I recently attended at a 1 week long intensive training stage which clearly opened my eyes to photography.

I’m shooting everyday since.

Nice colors! The red scarf and hand orientation create a great sense of movement!

The reflection in the car class adds a dreamy effect to the image.
